WE NEED VOLUNTEERS for our POOCH PLUNGE 2012!!!

The 5th annual Pooch Plunge has been scheduled for Monday, August 20th, 2012 at Kennedy Pool...

160 Oakwood Avenue
West Hartford, Connecticut 06119
860-236-1884

And we need your help!

Volunteer roles will include set-up, managing the check-in process, monitoring the entrance, monitoring the pool and clean-up.

Since this continues to be such a popular event, we once again plan to divide the swim into two sessions: an afternoon session (3:30 - 5:15) and an evening session (5:30 - 7:30) with the pool being cleared in between. We will need plenty of volunteers for both sessions, so please indicate when you would be available to help (i.e. 3:00 - 5:30 for the afternoon session or 5:30 - 8:00 for the evening session).

Please let us know if you can donate your time to this fun event.

Thank you!

Hello All,

Just a friendly reminder that June is Dog Licensing Month!  All dog licenses must be renewed by June 30, 2012 and can be either mailed with a current rabies certificate to Town Clerk, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06107 or renewed in person during the West Hartford Town Clerk's business hours.

For more information, please visit:

Also, this year the West Hartford Dog Park Coalition is happy to be co-sponsoring the West Hartford Patch's Top Dog Contest!  Once you have licensed your dog with the Town Clerk's office upload your favorite photo of your dog to this article (it’s super easy – just make sure you are a registered user first):

In the caption, please provide your dog’s name and what makes him or her so special. One photo per owner.
Between June 1 and June 14, Patch users will vote in the comments on which dog is West Hartford’s Top Dog.  On June 15, we will announce the winner of the West Hartford Patch Top Dog contest.  You can then go to the town clerk’s office and collect the number 1 dog tag for your pet to proudly wear all year (you will receive an email confirmation from Patch – bring that with you to the office).  West Hartford's "Top Dog" will also receive a plush dog bed, leash, food dish, and toys from Pet Supplies Plus, and a $200 gift certificate for a photo session from Paulette Mertes Studios, will be presented to the owner of the winning dog.
The winners of the local contests will then move on to a regional competition. The voting for that level runs from June 15-22, and again, will take place in the comments section of that article (which will be posted on June 15).  On June 23, the 4 regional winners will be unveiled, and they will face off to become Connecticut Patch’s Top Dog from June 23-30. The winner will be announced July 1.
Good luck with the voting and a huge thank you to Pet Supplies Plus and Paulette Mertes Studios for the generous donations!

Memorial Day Parade 2012!

We look forward to having you and your pup join us for this year's Memorial Day Parade!
The WHDPC Leadership Team is looking for a HUGE turnout, so we can demonstrate the significant interest within the community to bring a dog park to fruition in West Hartford.  The Town Council and other parade officials will be in the reviewing stand at the south end of Goodman Green - let's show them how important this project is!  This is our year...please bring the whole family and invite a friend or neighbor...we want a marching "Sea of Green" in this year's parade!

A few reminders:

Parade is scheduled for Monday, May 28, 2012 at 10AM!

The WHDPC is in the Third Division and will assemble on Farmington Avenue WEST of Newport Avenue.  We are between the Special Olympics and Hwang's Martial Arts.  Please plan to be there by 9:45AM.

Wear your green WHDPC t-shirt or other kelly green shirt.  Well-behaved dogs on leashes less than 6ft. in length are welcome!  Be mindful that it may be a hot day, so plan to carry some water for your 4-legged friend.

The parade ends in the Town Hall parking lot.

There is no rain date.  If weather appears to be a factor, parade officials will let us know and we will send an email to Coalition members and post a message on Facebook.
