Paws In The Park

Bring the dogs, bring the kids, it’s the 7th annual Paws in the Park, sponsored by VCA Animal Hospitals. There is something for everyone at this FREE event that benefits the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and South Windsor Bark Park (benches for the park and signs renaming the park in the name of Chief Gary K.Tyler).

The event happens on Saturday, May 5th at the Rotary Pavilion in Nevers Park from 10am – 3pm Rain Date is scheduled for May 6th.

Paws in the Park, coordinated by the South Windsor Jaycees, has plenty of attractions for both our canine friends and kids of all ages. For our furry buddies there are contests such as Best Costume, Best Kisser, Best Trick, Best Talker, Musical Sit and new this year the Fred Astaire Best Dancer Contest!! All winners and participants will receive great prizes compliments of Petco. Channel 8 WTNH’s Teresa LaBarbera and Fox 61's Geoff Fox will be among our celebrity judges! The event kicks off at 10 am with a dog walk led by Country 92.5’s Wendy Steele and her dog Caleb.

Besides enjoying seeing all the dogs, kids will have fun taking part in all our activities highlighted by free caricatures from 12- 3pm sponsored by camp Bow Wow. Other free attractions include a moon bounce provided by South Windsor Parks and Recreation, make and take projects by the SW Library, face painting by Camp Bow Wow, Child Fingerprinting and ID from New York Life and fun games.

Throughout the day there will be more than 40 vendors (including several rescues and shelters with animals up for adoption) to visit, live music by Unprepared, canine demonstrations, a martial arts demonstration by Shaolin Wushu Center, a huge tea cup auction and silent auction filled with products and gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants and plenty of great food to eat from Campion's Pizza, Italian Ice from Rita's and our traditional kettle corn vendor.
